August 28, 2016
Dear Friends,
It has been a while since we have sent an update so we want to catch you up on some of things God has been doing here on Vancouver Island.  Today we celebrate our 4 year island anniversary. Can you believe that you have been praying for us and supporting God's work here for 4 years? Today was also our final summer 2016 community block party as finish up an 8 week summer community outreach focus, and our 2nd annual Awana Registration Night as we kick-off a new fall family focus.  This summer we hosted 5 community block parties, 5 different children's camps, 2 weeks of Bible camps and 11 weeks of Sunday worship in local parks.  Tonight (on a very rainy evening), we registered at least 10 new families to our Awana program as a result of our summer efforts, with registration still open for 2 more weeks.
Also, our family remodeled and moved into a new rental house in May, and in September Ekklesia will begin renting the other suite in the house as our new Ministry Hub. This space will be used for weekly bible studies, small groups, music practice, weekly prayer groups, youth meetings, housing small mission teams, and any other opportunity God brings our way.
We are still striving to disciple believers, train leaders, impact our community with the Gospel, and be an evangelistic, mission minded church. We are building a strong connection with our Nepali church planter friends, having sent 2 mission teams and financially supporting the pastors. Also, a team of 6 leaves at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning (Monday) to help with the disaster relief efforts with one of our partner churches, Woodlawn Baptist in
Baton Rouge, LA.
Personally, our family is choosing to remain steadfast after a difficult year in ministry, stay focused on the mission God has called us to, and striving to continue to deepen our relationships with one another, our church family and with our Saviour. We are looking forward to this year as Ethan turns 18 and begins his senior year, and Joseph turns 16 and begins 10th grade, and as our church continues to grow in community, in faith and in our ministry to Sidney.
How can you pray for us?
  • Safety and effectiveness with the gospel and disaster relief helping Woodlawn
  • That our 2nd year of Awana will minister to many new families and impact them with the gospel
  • The Ekklesia body to grow in personal relationships together to be an effective gospel witness to our community
  • For our family to focus on what God is doing and His calling on our lives, and to not be caught in discouragement from our enemy

Thank you for loving us, supporting us and praying for us. Here's to 4 year's of God's faithfulness to us and the calling here on Vancouver Island.

For His Glory,
Matthew, Heather, Ethan and Joseph
