John 1:1-5-
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Who is Jesus?
John 1:9-14-
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 3:16-21-
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
Rom 6:23-
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 Cor 15:3-5-
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
Rom 10:9-
...because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Eph 2:8-9-
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Salvation
The salvation of souls is the vital mission of God's Church. South Park seeks to evangelize the lost in every ministry outlet. From Children's ministry to Youth Group to Adult Bible studies, Sunday mornings or weekdays, on church property or in the community: we know that making disciples begins with reaching the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Church Membership
Church members are professing Christians who, in obedience to Scripture, commit to the teaching, the mission, and the family of South Park. Our members faithfully attend, serve, lead, follow, and give, all for the fame of Jesus and the advancement of His Kingdom. While anyone and everyone are invited to attend our services, members are those who have committed themselves to be "all in" as we work to Make Disciples, Mature Believers and Multiply Missions.
Joining a church can be a little intimidating if you don’t know what to do. Here is some information that we hope will help you through the process:
-
Transfer of Membership - If you already have biblical assurance of salvation, have been baptized as a believer by immersion, and are coming to our church from another Southern Baptist church, you may join by letter. A letter is simply a note from your previous church that states you were a member in good standing there. In joining this way, we will contact your former church and provide all the paperwork.
-
Statement of Faith - Sometimes people join our church from other denominations, or they have not been involved in church for some time, or their former church would not have a record of membership. If you are already a Christian and have followed the Lord in believer's baptism, you may join by statement. "By statement" simply means you already have a personal relationship with Christ and have been baptized by immersion.
-
Baptism - Perhaps you become a new follower of Christ during our worship service, or you've been a Christian for some time but have not followed through with baptism. You can join the fellowship of South Park by following through on this significant step! See the "Baptism" section below for more info.
What is Believer's Baptism?
We believe that baptism is “the immersion of a believer of Jesus Christ in water, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." It is an act of obedience based on the believer’s faith in the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Symbolizing the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old sinful nature, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus.
