Church Staff

Dr. Howard Daniel, Pastor

Howard began his ministry as South Park’s Pastor in April 2011. He previously pastored four other churches in Texas, two while still completing his education. Prior to coming to South Park he served as the Director of Area Missions for the Wyoming Southern Baptist Convention.

He holds a BA in History from the University of Texas, a Masters of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Howard becoming the Pastor at South Park is truly a story of God’s providence. Howard grew up at South Park, where his parents were active members and leaders in the church for nearly 30 years. He was never a part of another church until he went off to college. He is passionate about his home church, desiring her to be a fellowship that is continually making disciples, maturing believers and multiplying missions for the Savior!

He is married to a wonderful Christian woman, LaVonna.  LaVonna coordinates TeamKid, South Park’s children’s ministry, on Wednesday evenings. She is employed by the Alvin Independent School District as a school nurse. Howard and LaVonna have two children, Russell and Laurie.  Russell is a Campus Pastor with Austin Christian Fellowship in Austin, Texas.  Laurie is a student at Tabor College, a small Christian College in Kansas, where she is a double major in Athletic Training and Strength and Conditioning.

 Matt Ruzicka, Youth Pastor

Matt officially joined the team at South Park in May 2013. Starting as a part-time youth pastor, it wasn't long before he came on board full-time to lead worship and serve in other vital areas of the ministry. He's been a Christian since age 13, and has served in ministry at some capacity for most of his adult life - whether through music, missions, preaching, or serving. Before being called to student ministry at South Park, he taught 8th grade English for almost 4 years. Matt is married to his beautiful wife, Allie, who serves with him weekly in youth ministry and leads the Coffee Crew for the Welcome Team on Sunday mornings. Their burning passion is to see young people experience Jesus and grow to be fully committed followers of him.

Tricia Smith,
Children's Ministry Director
Tricia Smith

Tricia and her family started attending South Park in 2007. She has worked with children in GA's and now serves in TeamKID on Wednesday evenings. She was raised in a Christian home and committed her life to Jesus when she was seven years old. Tricia has helped in many children's programs throughout the years, in several churches where her father served as pastor. She has worked in Mother's Day Out programs with babies through preschool age children, while her children were attending those schools.  She is now employed part-time at an internal medicine clinic.

Tricia's husband, Bobby, served as chairman of the building Team and currently serving as the chairman of the Property Committee. Their children, Evelyn and RJ, are members of SPY.

Tricia really felt God's hand leading her to this position. Her goal is to help grow the Kingdom of God by reaching children and their families for Christ.

Darlene, Receptionist

Darlene started with South Park as a receptionist in November of 2015.  This is her first time working in a Church, as most of her working experience has been as a legal secretary.  She has been a born-again Christian for approximately 8 years, and she volunteers at church with the “crawlers” and for occasional conferences and functions throughout the year.  Darlene’s favorite past volunteer experience was as a “baby-holder” at Texas Children’s Hospital in NICU-2.
